This time around, the event is a 4-star rated ASP event, boasting a 144 man competitor field with ASP WCT standouts and local rising stars alike.
This year Playa Jobos, Isabela will play the arena, which will undoubtedly allow the likes of CJ Hobgood, Taylor Knox, Brian Toth, Cory Lopez, and more to showcase their world-class talent. With a promising forecast for the extent of the waiting period, according to official forecast partner SURFLINE, the stars are aligning for another historic event.
In addition to the traditional powerhouse names of professional surfing, this event promises to expose and shed light on local Puerto Rican talent, who are all ready to represent their county in front of their home crowd. The Coors Light Wildcard Trials were held this past weekend at Jobos, where Miguel Diaz won, earning himself a Round of 96 wildcard. Runner-up finisher and Jobos local, Wilfredo "Control" Daliz also earned a wildcard with his performance. Additionally, Puerto Rican charger, Carlos Cabrero, has been granted the Round of 64 wildcard, which puts him in a great position for the main stage.
"To be a wildcard, for me it is a great opportunity since this is the first WQS event since 1989 and to have the wildcard it is a recognition of all the years that I was competing on the professional tour," Cabrero stated. "Thanks to Rip Curl for giving me the honor of representing Puerto Rico in this big event."
